Donating Supplies

To maximize our team’s efforts to provide a consistent diet and healthy environment, we are providing a list of preferred items and food brands to donate. This list may change, even on a weekly basis, depending on our diverse occupancy (dogs, cats, rodents, reptiles, birds) and their requirements.

This approach has proven successful at other Humane Societies in other communities and is based on feedback from our donors, who tell us they would like more information about what the shelter needs. We are confident this will help us prepare our pets for their forever homes by making the transition from shelter to home easier.

Those who wish to donate high-priority items directly to the shelter, such as cleaning supplies, towels, etc. are asked to do so by leaving the products at the main entrance.

Non-clumping cat litter

LIVING LEGACY FOR ANIMALS

LEAVE A LASTING GIFT FOR THE FUTURE OF LAMBTON COUNTY ANIMALS
Throughout its history, the Sarnia & District Humane Society has been the recipient of many bequests from generous donors. Bequests have been instrumental in assisting us with the many animals who come thru our doors. These gifts help the SDHS to rescue, treat and ensure a safe future for all the animals in our community. When our supporters talk to us about leaving bequests to the SDHS, they are often concerned about the uncertainty surrounding the size of their Estates when they pass on. No one knows exactly when they will pass on, let alone what the value of their Estate will be when the time comes.

Here are two ways to make a bequest that ease the worry around Estate size and gift amount.

  • Many people choose to make what are known as “residual gifts.” This type of donation is in fact the “leftovers” after all a person’s fixed obligations are met. So, for example, someone could leave a certain amount of money to each child and grandchild – and then leave the remainder to the Sarnia & District Humane Society.
  • Others prefer to leave a percentage of their estate to the SDHS. For example, someone with children and grandchildren might divide their estate into equal portions. Each child and grandchild will receive an equal portion – and the final portion might be split between that person’s local hospital and the SDHS.

Planning for the future does not need to deprive your loved ones in order to fit in your beloved charities, nor does it need to put a strain on you as you work to put your affairs in order. We hope that you will take solace in knowing that your living legacy will provide many years of surety to the animals who come thru our doors.
